WEAVERVILLE—Elizabeth "Libby" Huntley, age 87, of 6 Deerpen Drive died Sunday, October 14, 2012. Mrs. Huntley was born January 11, 1925, in Madison County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. During World War II she was a clerk at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. She later was a volunteer at the VA Hospital through American War Mothers. She was a charter member of Biltmore Christ Temple. Her everyday life was all about helping others. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Washington and Ruby Cooper Phipps; her husband, Warren Calvin Huntley who died in 1993; and her brothers, George and Marvin Phipps. Surviving are her daughters, Rev. Sonia Burleson of Weaverville and Joan Miller and husband Jon of Amesbury, Mass.; sons, Pat Huntley and wife Georgia "Sandy" of Charlotte, Tom Huntley and wife Frieda of Fletcher, and Dr. Douglas Huntley and wife Rebecca of Hendersonville; eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, October 18, 2012, at Biltmore Christ Temple, 260 Fairview Rd., Asheville, with Revs. Samuel Burleson and James Gass officiating. Burial will be in Hoopers Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church. West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, is in charge of arrangements.
