ASHEVILLE - Elizabeth "Betty" A. Parsons, age 80, of Givens Estates, died, Tuesday, February 18, 2014.
Mrs. Parsons was born April 14, 1933, in Norwich, CT. She attended Norwich Free Academy and graduated in 1951 with a concentration in business. She worked and retired from Dow Chemical Company's Technical Service Department at its Gales Ferry, CT facility. In 1971, she relocated to Asheville and graduated from the University of North Carolina-Asheville in 1980 with a teaching degree in foreign languages. Mrs. Parsons spoke fluent French, Spanish and Polish in addition to her native language of English. She was a member of the French and Spanish Honor Societies. She was also a member of the Reems Creek Golf Club, Country Club of Asheville, University Club of New York City and the Biltmore Forest Country Club. In addition, she was an avid golfer and tennis player at the Reems Creek and Asheville Clubs. Betty was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Nettie Peltier and was also preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn Whitaker.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Vinson A. Parson of Asheville; sisters, Lucille Arpin and husband Roderick and Eleanor DesSureauit and 17 nieces and nephews.
A private inurnment service will be at St. Eugene Catholic Church Columbarium in Asheville.
