WEAVERVILLE—Irene Elizabeth Peeke, age 92, of 270 Ollie Weaver Road died Thursday, March 5, 2009.
Miss Peeke was born December 27, 1916, in Buncombe County. She taught in the public school system for a number of years before becoming a missionary with West Indies Mission in Haiti where she served for 35 years. Miss Peeke attended First Baptist Church, Weaverville. She was the daughter of the late James Eugene and Willie Mae Corbet Peeke. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, William "Bill" Peeke, Albert "Abe" Peeke, George "Bob" Peeke, and Wanda P. Teague.
Surviving are her sister, Catherine Peeke of Weaverville; nieces, Barbara Ball, Dorothy Peeke and Carol Starnes; and nephews, William Peeke, Jr., and Reeves Teague.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2009 in First Baptist Church, Weaverville, with Rev. Dr. Jim McCoy and Rev. Lee Roy Denton officiating. Burial will be in Clark's Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
