ELOISE MARIE ANDERSON RICE

WEAVERVILLE – Eloise Marie Anderson Rice, age 80, of Weaverville died Saturday, March 19, 2022.

Mrs. Rice was born in Buncombe County to the late William Daniel Anderson and Jettie Lee Harwood Anderson.  She was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She was married to the late Gordon Edward Rice who passed away in 2010.  She graduated from Crossnore High School.  Mrs. Rice worked at Hadleys, Shaw, and Burlington and retired from Continental Tevis. Mrs. Rice attended Celebration Church in Weaverville, NC.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rice was preceded in death by her son, Edward Daniel Rice; and brothers, Gerald Anderson and Jerry Anderson.

Mrs. Rice is survived by daughter Deborah Marie Rice Shetley; son-in-law, Terry Lynn Shetley; brothers, Andy Anderson and Henry Anderson; and sisters-in-law, Cindy, Gloria and Carolyn Anderson, and Peggy, Eunice and Polly Rice; grandchildren, Kristal Lynn Shetley and husband Joseph P. Reese, Shawn Dustin Shetley and wife Christy Shetley; great-grandchildren, Trinity Eve, Dixie Lynn, Justin, and Levi; many nieces and nephews as well as; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.   

About Mrs. Rice, her daughter, Deborah Shetley, writes the following: “My mother, Eloise, was always loving and caring.  Her family was her life.  She helped us all when there was no help to be found.  She expected the best from us and gave her best in return.  Momma was always loyal to family and friends.  I would like to dedicate something I wrote to my momma when I say, ‘I love you, you know it’s true. So when I can’t be with you, here’s something for you. Here’s you a hug to hold in your heart, whether we’re near or far apart. You know that you’re special, you’re precious it’s true and life just won’t be the same without you. But know this one thing, I’ll always love you.’

A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, March 25, 2022 in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave. Rev. Jim Moore will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM - 11:00AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in West Memorial Park.
