WEAVERVILLE—Emily Jo Bishop West, age 86, of Weaverville died Saturday, October 9, 2010.
Jo was born December 11, 1923, the eldest child of the late Lonnie Calvin Bishop and Mary Morine Murray Bishop in the Bishopville Community of Robertson County, Texas. She grew up a few miles away in the town of Hearne. During World War II she met her husband, Glen West, Jr., who was in the U.S. Army stationed at Camp Hearne. They were married on Sunday, March 26, 1944. After Glen's discharge from service they moved back to his home town, Weaverville. In the coming years Jo would assist Glen in the family businesses, West Funeral Home and West Tourist Court.
She was a member of Weaverville United Methodist Church, the Grace Waugh Circle and had previously served on the Official Board, the Board of Trustees, served as chairman of the Parsonage Committee and was a member of the Pastor-Parish Relations Board. She was a charter member of the official board of the Dry Ridge Museum and a former member of the Woodland Hills Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen West, Jr. who died in 1979, as well as an infant brother, L.C. Murray Bishop, sister, Mary Seelye and brother, Webb Bishop.
Surviving are her son, Gary C. West and wife Vicki of Weaverville; daughters, Glenda Huneycutt of Albemarle and Patricia Crawford of Hickory. Also surviving are her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Chris Huneycutt of Albemarle and his children, Parker and Kinley; Angela Huneycutt Burleson and husband Dale also of Albemarle and their children, Laton and Leah and Emily Crawford Elrod and husband Jacob of Winston Salem and their children, Crawford and Caroline and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. West's funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 in Weaverville United Methodist Church with Rev.'s Linda Kelly and Worth Emory officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park beside her beloved husband, Glen.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville where the body will remain until placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

For the last five years Jo made her home at Mars Hill Retirement. The family wishes to gratefully thank the staff for the love and care that was shown to her and her family.
