ASHEVILLE—Emma Lou Thomas Waycaster, 92, of Asheville, died Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at her home.
Mrs. Waycaster was born June 14, 1918, in Yancey County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She attended Gospel Tabernacle. She was the daughter of the late Creed Delbert and Sallie Gouge Thomas. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, R.W. Waycaster who died in 1989; four daughters, one son, one grandson, one daughter-in-law, and ten brothers and sisters.
Surviving are her daughters, Della Davis of Alexander, Claudia Gooch of Claremore, Okla., Willie Barbour of Adair, Okla.; stepdaughter, Nell Whisnant of Denver, NC; sons, Kenneth Waycaster of Sebring, Fla., Clarence Waycaster of Hendersonville, Jack Waycaster of Sebring, Fla., Danny Waycaster of Enka; sister, Rena Blevins of Marion; 25 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren, and 26 great great grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, April 22, 2011, in Gospel Tabernacle, with Rev. Eugene Dodd officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.
At other times, the family will be at the residence.
