ERLINE EDWARDS MARS HILL – Erline Edwards, age 94, of the Mars Hill Retirement Home passed away Friday, July 8, 2016 at the retirement home. Mrs. Edwards was born January 15, 1922, at home in Marion County, MO and was a resident of Yancey County for most of her life. She loved to travel and worked in several states before she married her husband in 1955. They lived in Ohio before returning to the family farm in Burnsville, North Carolina where she was active with helping in the tobacco fields. She was employed by Honeywell Company for many years before retiring. She enjoyed music, the mountains, her family and dear friends. She was a member of Mt. Sheba Baptist Church, Weaverville. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Ethel Martin Schroder and wife of the late Gay Edwards who died April 18, 1990. She was also preceded in death by several sisters and brothers, Julia Bryan of Quincy, Ill., Hazel Drebes Chatfield, Marquerite Chatfield Bird, Vada Schieferdecker, all of Palmyra, MO, Henrietta Mersman of Bethel, MO, Ben Schroder of Quincy, Ill., Roy and Otto Schroder, both of Monroe City, MO, and Henry J. Schroder of Houston, TX. Surviving are her brothers, Glen Schroder of Lagrange, MO, and Larry Schroder of Maywood, MO; and several nieces and nephews and their spouses, and devoted caregivers. Her graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 13, 2016, in West Memorial Park, Weaverville, with Reverend Steve Rhinehart officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., Wednesday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. The family wishes to extend a thank you to the staff at Mars Hill Retirement Home and to Madison Home Care and Hospice for all the love and care given to Mrs. Edwards.
