WEAVERVILLE– Essie Lee Cauley Verner, age 99, of Weaverville, died Monday, June 17, 2019.
Mrs. Verner was born September 3, 1919 in Milan, Georgia to the late William L. and Sallie Bell Achord Cauley. She was a former clerk with JC Penny’s, and worked as a floor secretary with the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Gadsden, AL. She was a caregiver until she turned 80 years old and also volunteered with 106.9 FM radio station as a phone volunteer. Essie and her husband were avid bowlers; she continued bowling into her 90’s. Her husband Hamilton Tarpley Verner, Jr., died in 1962. She was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are her daughter, Judith Carolyn Verner Knighten and husband Bill; sons, Robert Garry Verner and wife Marilyn, and Steven Lee Verner and wife Rena; grandchildren, Eddie Knighten, Ken Knighten, Mitch Knighten, Amanda Verner Davis, Bethany Verner, Robert Verner, Theresa McCord, Chandy Maroney, and Brian Furuto; and several great grandchildren.
Her memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2019 in Flat Creek Baptist Church. Reverends Brian Hanrahan and Bob Belford will officiate.
