KINGSPORT, TENN./WEAVERVILLE—Evelyn Rhea Ballard Jones, age 82, of Kingsport, Tenn., died Thursday, August 8, 2013. Mrs. Jones was born August 18, 1930, in Buncombe County where she grew up in the Beech Community. She attended Warren Wilson College and Appalachian State University, graduating with a degree in education. She met her husband Thad Jones while at Appalachian State and they were married in 1953. They resided in Charlotte where she raised her family and taught junior high, high school and college. After retirement she split her time between Sherrills Ford, N.C., and Kingsport, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rex D. Ballard and Helen Sue Rhea Ballard West; husband Thad Allan Jones who died in 1994; sister, June and husband John Bagwell; and granddaughter, Megan Sue Jones. Surviving are her sons, Allan Jones of Charlotte, Dr. Warren Jones and wife Lisa of Kingsport, Tenn., and Stuart Jones of Charlotte; brother, Rex Duard "R.D" Ballard and wife Betty of Raleigh; grandchildren, Lindsey and Evan Jones; and nieces and nephews. Her graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 11, 2013, at West Memorial Park, with Rev. Jay Rabuck officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Reems Creek-Beech Presbyterian Church, 4 Sugar Cove Rd., Weaverville, NC 28787. West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, is in charge of arrangements. Directions To West Memorial Park 40 Roberts Street, Weaverville, NC Driving from Asheville. Take 19 & 23 North, also Future I-26 and go to Exit 21 marked (New Stock Rd.). At the end of the exit ramp there will be a traffic light. Turn right and immediately there will be another traffic light. Turn left and go about 2 miles and you will merge into Main Street Weaverville. Stay north on Main Street to the next traffic light. Turn right on Hamburg Mountain Road and go to the second street on right. This is Roberts Street. The cemetery is on the left.
