LEICESTER—F. B. Chambers, Jr., age 81, of 1024 Goughes Branch Rd., celebrated his heavenly homecoming Wednesday, September 7, 2011.
Mr. Chambers was born April 27, 1930, in Buncombe County. He loved gardening, woodworking and his John Deere tractor. He served in the U.S. Navy. A devout Christian and true gentleman, he was very proud of his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He formerly served as a deacon in his church. Mr. Chambers retired from Southern Bell after 31 years of service. He was a son of the late Fuller Bryan Chambers, Sr., and Lelia S. Chambers-Howell. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his father- and mother-in-law, Ed and Lucinda Masters Watkins.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Bernette Watkins Chambers, known to him as his "Darling Person"; daughters, Cheryl Dover and husband Vernon, Karen Lusk and husband Mike, Gwynne Wells and husband Larry, and Susan Wooten and husband Don, all of Leicester; brothers, Robert Chambers and wife Elizabeth of Marshall and Ed Chambers and wife Lynn of Asheville; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
His graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 10, 2011, at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, with Rev. Bobby Smith and grandson Bryan Dover officiating.
At other times, the family will be at the residence.
