Faye Plemmons Gunter

FAYE PLEMMONS GUNTER ASHEVILLE - Faye Plemmons Gunter, a Madison County native, age 94, passed Friday, August 8, 2014. Her most recent residence was Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Asheville. Mrs. Gunter was the daughter of the late Joseph M. Plemmons and Martha Justice Plemmons of Trust, NC; who were store keepers, farmers and postmaster at Trust. Mrs. Gunter became a member of Lusk Chapel Baptist Church near Trust before graduating from Spring Creek High School. Her membership was transferred during more recent years to Calvary Baptist Church of Asheville. Mrs. Gunter's husband, W.H. Gunter fought in the South Pacific during World War II. Mrs. Gunter contributed to the war effort during that period with employment at Martin Aircraft Productions in Baltimore, MD as a parts requisition clerk. After the war she and her husband stayed on the west coast for a number of years near where he had been stationed. They built a home and started their family there. During succeeding years they returned to the east. Mrs. Gunter became a clothing buyer for Belks Department Stores. Mrs. Gunter was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, twenty siblings and their spouses. She is survived by her son, Robert Gunter and his wife Joanne and their son Eric as well as a great number of nieces, nephews and their children and grandchildren. Her funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 in the Sanctuary of Calvary Baptist Church, 531 Haywood Road, Asheville, NC 28806. Reverend Jeff Hayes will officiate. Burial will be in Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery, Black Mountain. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church. West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville is in charge of arrangements.
