Fletcher Carter

Fletcher Carter, age 87, of Alexander died on Saturday, February 4, 2023.

Fletcher was born October 22, 1935, in Asheville to the late Ben and Hazel Martin Carter; he was a life-long resident of Buncombe County. He graduated from West Buncombe High School and Mars Hill College; he furthered his education in engineering at the University of Michigan and N.C. State University. Fletcher and his wife were owner/operators of Highland Equipment Company and Oakley Coin Laundry. Fletcher also enjoyed farming and building projects. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Weaverville where he served on numerous committees. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Ilaine Carter.

Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Joan Davis Carter; daughter, Judy Carter Davis and husband Clint of Irmo, SC, and son, Barry Carter and wife Yoshiko of Alexander; grandchildren, Ashley Davis, Alex Carter, Jake Carter, Charles Davis, and Hana Carter.

His funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, February 11, 2023, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Stuart Lamkin officiating. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends 9:45 am to 10:45 am prior to the funeral at the funeral home.
