WEAVERVILLE—Franklin Reel Deitz, age 89, of 31 Church St., died Sunday, March 11, 2012.
Mr. Deitz was born March 17, 1922, in Edgefield County, S.C. He was a retired lieutenant in the Southern Railway Police Department and had been a sergeant in the Weather Squadron of the US Army Air Corps, serving during World War II in the Middle East. Mr. Deitz was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Weaverville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo Melvin and Mabel Reel Deitz; his wife, Lalia Bartlett Deitz who died in 1991; and brother, Carl Deitz.
Surviving are his son, Ronnie Deitz and wife Peggy of Weaverville; granddaughter, Rhonda Priester and husband Jamie, and grandson, Logan Deitz; and great grandchild, Addy Noe.
His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, March 15, 2012, at First Baptist Church, Weaverville, with Rev. Dr. Jim McCoy and Rev. Lee Roy Denton officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.
At other times the family will be at the home of Ronnie and Peggy Deitz, 16 Reagan St., Weaverville.
