WEAVERVILLE—Freda Christine Mundy Walden, 61, of 7 Blevins Road died Monday, January 10, 2011.
Mrs. Walden was born October 20, 1949, in Buncombe County. She retired from Square D after 35 years. She then went back to school at Haywood Community College and received a "Who's Who" award for graduating top in her class for her horticulture degree. Crafts and flowers were her passion. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Lessie Lunsford Mundy.
Surviving are her husband of 42 years, Danny Walden; sisters, Lois Ponder and Eva Worley of Weaverville; brother, Duain Mundy of East Flat Rock; several nieces and nephews; special great niece as her granddaughter, Shana Brookshire who called her Mamaw; and her beloved Shih Tzu, Layla "Bell."
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 13, 2011, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Nelson Ponder officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Union Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be: Elroy Harris III, Jeremy Holmes, DeWayne Fender, Sammy Walden, Jim Moore, and Darryl Blevins.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
At other times, the family will be at the residence.
