ASHEVILLE—Frederick William Spanton, age 71, of Marlwood Court, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012.
Mr. Spanton was born September 24, 1940, in Glasgow, Scotland. He was a graduate of Stow College in Scotland where he received his tool and die making education. In his earlier years he played professional soccer in Scotland. For the past 13 years he was employed with Ron Wallace and Associates as a manufacturing engineer cutting tool specialist. He often said Ron Wallace was not only a great friend but the best employer he'd ever had. He attended North Asheville Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed cooking for all of his family and friends. Mr. Spanton was preceded in death by his parents, James Daniel and Elizabeth Blackie Spanton.
Surviving are his wife, Sue Caldwell Spanton whom he married November 14, 1986; and daughter and the apple of his eye, Amber Spanton of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Wayne Spanton and Warren Spanton, both of Florida; sister, Alice Gillis of Scotland; and brother, Bill Spanton of England; several nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 19, 2012, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Ricky Bowen officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
At other times the family will be at the residence.
