Gene Withrow

Gene Withrow, age 81, of Weaverville passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025, at Mission Hospital.

Colonel Withrow was born on April 7, 1943, in Cleveland, TN. He retired in 1995 after more than 30 years of service in the United States Army as an officer and prosthodontist. He graduated from University of Tennessee at Knoxville and University of Alabama at Birmingham Dental School. Gene worked in private practice, at the VA and as a professor. He was instrumental in creating the MAHEC dental residency program.

Gene was the son of the late Orville L. and Lennie Wright Withrow and was also preceded in death by sisters, Joy Withrow and Robbie Gobble.

He is survived by his wife, Paula V. Withrow of Asheville; daughter, Heather Withrow Miller of Harrisonburg, VA; son, Jeffrey Sean Withrow of Denver, CO; stepdaughter, Claire Auerbach of Athens, GA; sisters, Minnie Lee “Weedie” Ware, and Faye Rollins of Cleveland, TN; grandchildren, Hensley and Reagan Miller, and Adelaide and Lily Auerbach; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends at Jim Rush Funeral Home, 2603 N. Ocoee St., Cleveland, TN 37311 from 11am to 1pm on Thursday, February 6, 2025. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 pm, at McInturff Cemetery, Hwy 60, Birchwood, TN 37308 (Miegs County) with Military Honors.
