WEAVERVILLE—Geneva Peek Ray, age 91, of Weaverville, died Sunday, November 4, 2012.
Mrs. Ray was born September 8, 1921, in Madison County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She was a graduate of Mars Hill College and received her master's degree from Western Carolina University. She retired after 30 years of teaching English from North Buncombe High School. Geneva was a faithful member since 1976 of First Baptist Church, Weaverville, where she taught the Mary Martha Sunday school class. She was a longstanding member of the Eastern Star and Delta Kappa Gamma Teaching Sorority. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel J. and Cumi Ledford Peek; son, Terry Lynn Ray; brothers, Leonard, Robert, and Paul Peek.
Surviving are her niece, Roberta Peek Hohman of Alturas, Calif.; nephews, Neil Peek of Salem, Ore., Kermit Peek of Fletcher, and Logan Peek of Mint Hill.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, November 8, 2012, at First Baptist Church, Weaverville, with Revs. Jim McCoy and Lee Roy Denton officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
