GEORGE M. "BUD" HAWKINS WEAVERVILLE - George M. Hawkins, age 80 of Weaverville died Saturday, January 17, 2015. Mr. Hawkins was born June 28, 1934 in Buncombe County to the late George Monroe Hawkins and Lillian Smith Hawkins. He was a veteran of the US Army and retired after 39 years of service from Daniel's Graphics. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his sister, Beverly Marler. Surviving are his daughter Angela Henderson and fiancé, Chubby Rogers of Leicester; son, Charlie Hawkins also of Leicester; sister, Linda Hawkins and brother, Allen Hawkins both of Asheville and grandson, Justin Henderson. His memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, January 22, 2015, in New Liberty Baptist Church, 625 Olivette Rd., Asheville, NC 28804 with Reverend Gary Rogers officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2015, in Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery, Black Mountain with military graveside rites provided by VFW Post #5483, Mars Hill Memorial Team. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. West Funeral Home is assisting the family.
