Georgia Waters

d. May 30, 2011

ASHEVILLE—Georgia Waters, age 88, of New Stock Road went home to be with her family and her Lord on Monday, May 30, 2011. Georgia was born April 24, 1923, to Marcellius and Tine Hensley Edwards in the Little Egypt community in Yancey County. She was the next to the youngest child and had five sisters and seven brothers. She married Dan L. Waters, Sr., in 1955 and joined him in operating Dan's Cafe on N. Lexington across from the Farmers Market. They sold the cafe in the late 60s and she became a homemaker. Dan Waters, Sr., died in 2005 and she has been in the loving care of her son, Dan L. Waters, Jr., and his wife, Donna, since then. As a young teen, she took a job in the kitchen of the Biltmore House and, after traveling the country with her first husband, returned to Asheville to stay. She was a long-time member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. With her husband, she helped build a new church that is now the recreation center. Besides her son, she is survived by her brother, Ray Edwards and wife Valerie of Unicoi, Tenn.; grandchildren, Curtis Waters and wife Dani of Sterling, Va., Tamera Rogers and husband Michael of Charlotte; four great grandchildren, Ben and Scott Waters, and Alexis and Zackary Rogers; and many nieces and nephews. Her graveside service will be held at 2:30 PM Friday, June 3, 2011, at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, with Pastor Ebb Jenkins officiating. The family will receive friends 1:00 until 2:00 PM Friday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville prior to the service.
