Gerald Buckner

Gerald Buckner, 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 10, 2022 with his children at his side.

Gerald was born on May 17, 1941 in Madison County to the late Coleman and Eva Buckner. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Metta Fisher Buckner who passed away in 1994; two brothers, Jimmy and Bobby Buckner; and a sister, Patricia Buckner Wike.

A United States veteran, Gerald served in the US Air Force. He was an outgoing and charming man who absolutely loved life and people in general. Funny and quick witted, he thoroughly enjoyed making people smile and laugh. He was kind and generous and known to “pick up the check” when others weren’t looking. Gerald enjoyed watching cooking shows and loved eating. He’d never turn down a good meal.

Gerald had one great love of his life and missed Metta tremendously. There’s no doubt she was waiting for him on Thursday morning.

He is survived by his daughter, Beth Buckner Tootle; a son, Greg Buckner (Kammie); three grandchildren, Faith Tootle, Cameron Tootle and Hannah Buckner; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 10AM on Monday, February 14, 2022 in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Greg Hollifield officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, 901 Aiken Road, Asheville. The family will receive friends from 9AM to 10AM at the funeral home.
