Gerald Douglas Buckner, age 72, of Weaverville, went to be with the Lord on May 19, 2024, in Asheville where he was born. Gerald is now reunited with his parents Barbara Jean & Elmer Buckner as well as brother-in-law, Earl Wilburn in eternal peace.
Gerald was a man deeply connected to his roots at his homeplace in the mountains. His days were filled with farming, hunting, and sharpening knives. Gerald was a carpenter by trade, and especially loved the mountains in which he was born and grew up. He found joy on his daily walks on the property, cutting trees and chopping firewood, and he would weed eat the property for hours at a time. He could be found talking with friends and family about their genealogy, and kept up with everyone by memory.
In mourning Gerald's departure are his surviving family members: his loving wife of 47 years, Juanita Willis Buckner; devoted children, Cindy Langford, Stephen Buckner (Kacey), Jonathan Buckner (Jenn); his grandchildren whom he cherished, Austin Langford (Emily), Tyler Buckner, Travis Buckner, Austin Buckner, Aunna Craig, Audrina Craig, Jonas Buckner, Jetta Buckner, Josie Buckner; great-grandchild, Ellison Langford; dear sister, Dianne Buckner Black; beloved nephew, Jeremiah Black (Natasha) along with Alivia Black, Elia Black, Lianna Black, and Mayah Black.
Gerald's life will be honored and remembered at West Funeral Home in Weaverville. A visitation will take place on Thursday, May 23, starting at 1:30 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 2:30pm. All who knew Gerald are welcome to pay their respects and celebrate his life. The service will be officiated by Rev. Jerry Jamerson, and Gerald’s son, Jonathan Buckner. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 474 Cedar Hill Road, Alexander, NC 28701. Serving as pallbearers are Stephen Buckner, Austin Langford, Travis Buckner, Jeremiah Black, Jeff Buckner, Danny Buckner, Danny Allen and Bobby McDaris.
Gerald touched the lives of many with his kindness and his love for the outdoors. His legacy will live on through the memories shared by those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace as he journeys to be with the Lord.
