Gerald N. Evascu

d. July 26, 2013

WEAVERVILLE -Gerald Nicholas Evascu, 69, of Weaverville, died July 26, 2013, at John F. Keever Jr. Hospice Solace Center. Born in Alliance, OH, on August 6, 1943, Mr. Evascu was a long-time resident of Evanston, IL, before moving to Weaverville, NC, in 2004. Gerry graduated with a BS in Economics from Northwestern University and then attained an MBA from The University of Chicago. He worked in NYC for AISEC, Citibank, and Dominick and Dominick. In 1971, he and Kathy moved to Los Angeles, where Gerry worked as a money manager with Security Pacific Bank. From there, they moved to Evanston, IL, where he was with AG Becker before leaving to work as an independent consultant to money management firms, providing advice on marketing and performance enhancement. He continued in that capacity when they moved to North Carolina. Mr. Evascu had battled autoimmune hepatitis and liver cancer since 2011. He was an avid fly fisherman and gardener, among other hobbies, and traveled the world. One of his life goals -- completed in January, 2011, thanks to local actors who gathered to perform Henry VIII -- was to see every play written by Shakespeare. Mr. Evascu was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas Evascu and Mary Popa Evascu. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kathleen, and two daughters: Sarah (Adam Rabinowitz) and grandchildren, Zoe and Felix of Austin, Texas; and Caroline (John Holena) and grandchildren, Agnes, Jasper and Elliot, of Denver, Colorado. He is also survived by his brother, Tom Evascu (Maria Evascu), and nephew John Evascu. The family will receive friends on August 1 from 4:00-6:00 at the residence. A more formal memorial service is planned for the fall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Gerald N. Evascu to support Northwestern University Women's Lacrosse, c/o Jean Yale, 1501 Central Street, Evanston, IL 60208; Care Partners Hospice Foundation, 68 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803; or NC Stage Company, 15 Stage Lane, Asheville, NC 28801. The family wishes to thank Jennie, Susan, Bessie, Melanie, and Kelly for their continued care and Tom Whitlock for his medical expertise. For those who desire, condolences may be offered to the family under Mr. Evascu's obituary at www.WestFamilyFuneralServices.com.
