Gertrude Bradford Higgins

MARION - Gertrude Bradford Higgins, age 82 of Marion died June 22, 2015. She was residing at the home of her sister, Lily Mae Allen at the time of her death. Mrs. Higgins was born February 11, 1933 in Yancey County to the late John Emory and Essie Hylemon Bradford. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie H. Higgins. Surviving are her son, Archie Higgins of Tennessee; along with grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, a brother, nephews and nieces. Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, June 26, 2015, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Reverend Larry Sprouse officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Friday prior to the services. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of McDowell County, 575 Airport Rd., Marion, NC 28752.
