LEICESTER—Gladys Louise Tweed Griffin, age 85, of Leicester, died Monday, March 11, 2013, at home surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Griffin was born April 7, 1927, in Madison County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She retired from Square D in 1993 after 25 years. She was a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church where she served as a church clerk and a Sunday School teacher. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron and Murphy Fox Tweed; husband, H.L. Griffin, Jr., who died in 1974; daughter, Vera Veanese Griffin; sister, Evelyn Myers; and brothers, Richard Tweed and Willard Tweed.
Surviving are her daughters, Jacquetta Hightower and husband Terry, Linda Young and husband David, and Sherry Fulbright and husband Tommy Sherman, all of Leicester; sisters, Vernell Vaughn of Ohio and Inez Payne of Statesville; brother, Wayne Tweed and wife Sue of Marshall; ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, March 14, 2013, in Cedar Hill Baptist Church, with Rev. Roy McPeters, Rev. Albert Roberts, and Rev. DeWayne Tweed officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:15 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
