Glenn Robert Barr

Glenn Robert "Bob" Barr, age 83, of Asheville, died Sunday, September 6, 2015. Mr. Barr was born April 22, 1932 in Washington County, PA. He was the son of the late Harold Wendell and Sylvia Belle Maze Barr. Mr. Barr graduated from Washington High School, served in the US Navy from 1950 until 1954 and completed his BSEE, magna cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh in 1958. He went on to work for General Dynamics Corp. in Pomona CA where he retired from in 1990. Bob loved his family, teaching from the Bible and was an avid golfer. Surviving are his wife, Shirley M. Barr; daughter, Maureen B. Espitia of Fletcher; son, Steven R. Barr of Greer, SC; sister, Mary E. Stewart of Washington, PA; and grandchildren, Daniel J. Espitia of San Jose, CA, Phillip J. Espitia of Fletcher, and Christina J. Barr of Greer, SC. His memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 10, 2015, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Reverend Jim McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
