WEAVERVILLE - Glenn J. Boone, Jr, passed on the evening of Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 80-years of age from metastatic cancer in Monroe, LA. He was staying with his surviving daughter and her family there. He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 56 years, Judith B. Boone (Judy) on October 9, 2019, from kidney disease. Although Judy passed prior to Glenn, she requested that she be cremated at the time of her death and, upon his passing, be interred with him. Both Glenn and Judy were residents of Weaverville, NC.
They are survived by their loving daughter Sarah B. Voth, son-in-law Carl Voth, and cherished grandchildren Andrew and Sophia Voth of Louisiana as well as Glenn’s devoted brother Jack Boone and sister-in-law Jane Boone, of Colorado. They also leave behind their beloved grandchildren Megan and Evan Goettsch, of South Carolina, from their dearest oldest daughter Mary Rebecca Boone Goettsch whom passed in 2016 from surgical complications, and sister-in-law Tommie Brown, of Asheville, NC, wife of Judy’s brother Malcolm Kenneth Brown, Jr, who preceded them in death.
Glenn, the youngest child of Glenn J. Boone, Sr, and Emma Holmes Boone, was born in the Haw Creek section of Buncombe County, NC. Glenn’s ancestors were among the first settlers in Buncombe County having descended from Israel Boone, brother of American frontiersman Daniel Boone. Judy was the only girl of three children born to Malcolm Brown, Sr, and Eula Kitchen Brown in Arden, NC.
Glenn and Judy were high school sweethearts. After graduating from Valley Springs High School, Glenn served in the Army National Guard while working and apprenticing as a machinist specializing in tool and die. He later served as vice-president of Fishburne Equipment, Co. which specialized in the manufacture of hydraulic equipment. Glenn later left Fishburne in 1979 to launch his own company, Arden Machine Specialties, which thrived under his leadership until his retirement in 2017. Out of high school, Judy attended the University of North Carolina – Greensboro for a year before she and Glenn married on December 26, 1963. Afterward Judy began working as a secretary at Stencel Aero Engineering Corp. and quickly advanced to a successful career in Human Resources for the likes of Schwitzer Turbochargers and Mills Manufacturing in Asheville, NC.
Glenn thrived in working the land, working in wood, camping at the lake, shooting, fishing, caring for his family, and spoiling Judy. Judy was an avid reader of mysteries, loved cooking, restoring antiques, doting on her children and grandchildren, and spoiling Glenn. Both loved the mountains of Western North Carolina, animals, gardening, and cherished their extended family of friends and neighbors.
