SYLVA – Gloria Marie Hewitt, 67, of Sylva, passed away on October 13, 2023, at Mission Hospital. Gloria was born on April 9, 1956, in Buncombe County. She was the daughter of the late Arthur Joseph and Marie Etta Trantham. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Charles Wills.
Gloria worked at Square D for many years, and also worked at Lowe’s where she met her husband, Ernie. They later worked together at Ingles. She loved her flowers, gardening, and the outdoors. She was a caring and loving person and would give you the shirt off her back. She had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger. She and Ernie have a big family of friends at T-Birds and Cowboys in Weaverville.
Mrs. Hewitt is survived by her husband of 16 years, Ernest Hewitt; her children, Terri Kirkpatrick (Jason), Mark Payne (Carrie), Heather Payne, Holly Russell (James Hornbuckle), and Tracey Mace (Brandon); step-daughter, Ashley Lands; her brother, Ray Trantham (Sheila); grandchildren, Cody and Thomas Kirkpatrick, Chloe and Makayla Payne, Hailey Russell, Chad and Michael Hornbuckle, Zane, Zander, Zoey, Zach Mace; several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.
Her memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2023, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with Reverend Frank Willett officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., just prior to the service.
