H. Bruce Ray

BARNARDSVILLE—H. Bruce Ray, age 74, of Barnardsville died Wednesday, February 2, 2011. Mr. Ray was born January 23, 1937, in Buncombe County where he had lived for most of his life. He retired from the Water Department with the City of Asheville. He was a Veteran of the US Army. Bruce was a member of Pisgah Forest Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Edgar and Dora Robinson Ray, and his daughter-in-law, Wanda J. Ray. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Myrna Moore Ray; daughter, Melody Martin and husband Alan of Norcross, Ga.; sons, Richard B. Ray and wife Tracy, and Timothy E. Ray, all of Barnardsville; sister, JoAnn McConnell of Weaverville; grandchildren, Jonathan Ray, Joshua Ray, Sarah Gates, T.J. Ray, Dakota Waldrop; great grandson, Maverick Ray; and special sister-in-law, Joyce Moore. Mr. Ray's funeral service will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, February 6, 2011, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Dean Metcalf officiating. Burial will be in Clark's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-5 PM Saturday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of his son Tim.
