HENDERSONVILLE/WEAVERVILLE – Harold Redman “Roonie” Young, age 88 of Hendersonville and formerly of Weaverville, died peacefully at his home in Fletcher Park Inn, Sunday, September 3, 2017. Mr. Young was born September 8, 1928 in Buncombe County to the late Joe Henry Young, Sr. and Carrie Redman Young. A loving husband and father, he was a devoted caregiver to his wife. He graduated from Woodfin High School and Blanton’s Business College. Mr. Young worked in Detroit, Michigan with Kaiser Motors, was a former agent with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and retired in 1990 from the US Postal Service as one of the last “walking letter carriers” in West Asheville. A former member of Riverside Baptist Church, he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher. When the family relocated in 1974 to Ox Creek in Weaverville they attended Reems Creek-Beech Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed his life in Weaverville, working on his farm and tending to his Limousin cattle and goldfish pond. Leisure activities included spending time in nature and playing chess – always the winner! In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Wilhelmina Frances Y. Wright; brothers, Hamilton Duevoy Young, Thomas Lowell Young, Joe Henry Young, Jr., Clarence Edward Young and John Calvin Young; sons-in-law, Dr. Sheldon B. Clark and R. Marshall Fields. Surviving is his wife of 69 years, Dorothy Clark Young; daughters, Fern C. Bray and husband Tony of Hustonville, Kentucky, Deborah Fields of Weaverville and Pamela Hughes and husband John of Fletcher; son, Matthew B. Young and Kimberly Fyfe of Prescott Valley, Arizona; grandsons, Graham Redman Fields and wife Leslie of Fletcher and Clark Andrew Fields and wife Amanda of Weaverville; great grandchildren, Alexander Redman Fields and Ellie Addison Fields; along with several nieces and nephews. A celebration of a life well-lived will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank the community for friendship they received at the Fletcher Park Inn and compassionate care given by Trudy Workman, Valerie Palacious and Noemi Henson.
