Hazel Rice Buckner

ALEXANDER—Hazel Rice Buckner, age 103, formerly of Alexander, died Wednesday, August 15, 2012. Mrs. Buckner was born January 12, 1909, in Haywood County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, P.C. and Annie McLean Rice; and husband, Roy L. Buckner who died in 1987. Surviving are her daughters, Beatrice DeBruhl of Alexander, Pauline Hunter of Arden, Jane Ponder and husband Dennis of Weaverville, Joann Snyder and husband Ronnie of Alexander, and Edna Mull of Weaverville; son, Larry J. Buckner and wife Joanie of Mars Hill; sisters, Katherine Martin of Alberta, Va., and Ruby Bryant of Amagon, Ark.; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, August 18, 2012, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Jerry Jamerson officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
