Hazel Lewis Proffitt

ASHEVILLE – Hazel Lewis Proffitt, age 89, of Asheville, went to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, October 2, 2018. Mrs. Proffitt was born September 16, 1929 in Madison County to the late Druid Archibald and Bonnie Worley Lewis; she was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. Hazel attended Blanton’s Business College and after 32 years of service, retired from Brentwood Hills Nursing Home. She was a member of Newbridge Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Harlan B. Proffitt who died December 13, 2017; and her baby brother, Errain Lewis Surviving are her daughters, Patricia Carol Donati and husband Edward, and Deborah Kay Metcalf and husband Roland; brothers, Lester Lewis and wife Genell, Landon Lewis, and David Lewis and wife Betty; grandchildren, Phillip Donati and wife Tracie, Michael Donati, Crystal Angel and husband Jonathan, and BreAnna Williams; great-grandchildren, Jonathan “J.J.” Angel, Destiny Donati, Hailey Angel, Aaron Angel, Brayden Angel and Eddie Donati. Hazel’s entombment service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday October 5, 2018 in Lewis Memorial Park. Reverends Clark Henderson and Wes Pike will officiate. A celebration of Hazel’s life will be at her home, 101 Black Oak Drive, Asheville, NC 28804, following the service at the cemetery. West Funeral Home is assisting the family.
