WEAVERVILLE - Hazel S. Stroupe, age 78, of 40 King Road, died Sunday, April 5, 2009.
Mrs. Stroupe was born April 1, 1931, in Buncombe County. Mrs. Stroupe was a daughter of the late Hiram Grant and Linnie Mae Phillips Sparks, and the wife of the late William R. "Bill" Stroupe who died in 1988. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Charles and Clarence Sparks, Dorothy McCabe, Annie Lee Sparks, Mary Lou King, and Alice Priestley.
Surviving are her daughter, Norma Stroupe of Leicester; sons, Bill Stroupe, Jr., and wife Debbie of Weaverville, and Phillip Stroupe of Burnsville; sister, Robbie Tolley and husband Dave of Arden; grandchildren, Heather, Kimberley, Candace, Tami, Michael and Austin Stroupe, and Amber Yelton and Ashley Estep; great granddaughters, Kara and Aislinn Stroupe; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. in Salem United Methodist Church, of which she was a faithful member with Rev. Darrel Bowles and Rev. Roger Boone officiating. Burial will be in Clark's Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, where the body will remain until placed in the church one hour prior to the services.
At other times the family will be at the home of Bill and Debbie Stroupe, 19 Roberts Rd.
The family would like to express their gratitude to CarePartners Hospice, Brian Center of Weaverville and all her caregivers for the care given to Mrs. Stroupe.
