Helen Miller Buckner

BARNARDSVILLE – Helen Miller Buckner, age 84, of Barnardsville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 25, 2023.  Helen was born on September 10, 1939, in Yancey County, the daughter of the late John Wesley Miller and Viola Shelton Miller. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Paul J. Buckner; and two sons, Doug Buckner and Roger Buckner.

Helen lived in Buncombe County most of her life.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  An excellent cook, Helen enjoyed cooking for family and loved nothing more than going mushroom hunting.  She loved to garden and canned much of the food she grew.  The family shares great memories of trips to Cades Cove, and of Helen’s enjoyment of Gospel music.

She is survived by her son, Danny Buckner and his wife, Donna; her daughter, Sharon Cox; brothers, J.W. Miller, Charles Miller, Sammy Miller and Dale Miller; sisters, Jeannie Kaulf and Gloria Hudgins; grandchildren Heather, Steven, Melanie, Travis, Amy, Ashley, Brandon, and Josh; 19 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special caregiver, Diane Craine.

Helen’s funeral service will be held in the Chapel of West Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2023. Reverend John Coffey will officiate, and family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at Thomas F. Dillingham Cemetery in Barnardsville.
