HENRY ALBERT CHATHAM
ASHEVILLE — Henry Albert Chatham, age 84, formerly of Moody Avenue, went home to be with Jesus Sunday, April 17, 2016.
Mr. Chatham was born August 7, 1931 in Wake County, NC and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He retired as a custodian with the Buncombe County Schools. A former dairy farmer and “jack of all trades” he was always willing to help his family and friends at any time. Compassionate and loving, he enjoyed his animals, coffee, telling stories and listening to gospel music. Henry was a faithful member of First Church of the Nazarene. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Velma Gaddy Chatham; son, Clayton Cox; parents, Ben and Lela Chatham; brothers, J.B. and Ray Chatham; sisters, Frances King and Edith Perry.
Surviving are his daughters, Bobby Lou Kee and husband Wayne of Asheville, Amy Solesbee and husband Bill of Woodfin, Sherie Reynolds and husband Tim of White Bluff, TN; brother, Bob Chatham of Angier; granddaughter, Wendy Rice and husband Roy of Weaverville, great grandchildren, Savannah and Dalton Reynolds, William and Peyton Solesbee, Autumn and Owen Rice.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2016 in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville with Pastor Andrew Crimmins officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Enka.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
