WEAVERVILLE—Herbert H. "Herb" Edmonds, age 77, of Weaverville, died peacefully Thursday morning, June 14, 2012, at the Brian Center following an extended illness.
Herb was born June 19, 1934, in Asheville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Merrill Edmonds of Biltmore and his beloved sister, Betty Edmonds Shope of Greenville, Tenn.
Herb was a graduate of Biltmore High School and East Tennessee State where his expert skills with a basketball were proudly displayed and recognized. Herb resided in Greenwood, S.C., for more than 40 years and was retired from Monsanto Textiles. His love for golf and fishing as well as motorcycles led to a longtime membership at Star Fort Country Club as well as past president of the Long Cane Enduro Riders Association.
Herb is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce Ray Edmonds, and their four children, Catherine Edmonds Hetzel, Richard Edmonds, Pamela Edmonds, and April Maxwell; sister, Ann Warren of Asheville; brother, Tom Edmonds of Chandler; three grandchildren, Bonnie Hildebrand, Kelly and Kim Maxwell; and two great grandchildren, Erin and Riley Seawright. Herb would want mentioned two special godsons, fishing and camping partners and compassionate friends, Will Gordon of Greenwood, S.C., and nephew, Tim Ray of Mars Hill.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Weaverville at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 16, 2012, with Rev. Skip Gillikin officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.
