HILMA BENNETT SMITH

WEAVERVILLE – Hilma Bennett Smith, age 87, of Marietta GA, formerly of Weaverville, died Monday, March 26, 2018. Mrs. Smith was born October 5, 1930 in Yancey County to the late Ray and Lucille Hunter Bennett. She was a long time employee of the Veterans Administration. Hilma was active in numerous charities, and had received the Tampa Tribune Volunteer of the Year Award. She was a member of Lake Carroll Baptist Church in Tampa, FL. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husbands, Charles H. Lamb and Dr. Samuel Frederick Smith, Jr. Surviving are her daughter, Kathy Harris and husband Geoffrey; son Gerald Lamb and wife, Debra; brother, Dr. R.M. Bennett and wife, Winnie; three grandchildren, Matthew, Martha and Mark Harris. Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Dr. Jim McCoy will officiate. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the service. Flowers are acceptable and appreciated.
