HOPE EDWARDS JOHNSON
WEAVERVILLE – Hope Edwards Johnson, age 93, of Winston Salem and formerly of Weaverville died Thursday, March 16, 2017.
Mrs. Johnson was born January 27, 1924 in Yancey County to the late Wesley C. and Ora Gibbs Edwards. She was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. A graduate of Western Carolina University, she taught second grade in Weaverville schools from 1958 until her retirement in 1979. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Weaverville.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Phillip Roberts Johnson, who died in 1999; and her sister, Ellen Edwards Burnham.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughter, Joan Johnson of Winston Salem; as well as several nieces and a nephew.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 20, 2017, in West Memorial Park, Weaverville, with Reverend Al Harrell officiating.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 8, 2017 in Salemtowne Saal, 1000 Salemtowne Rd., Winston Salem, with Chaplain Linda Browne officiating.
