WEAVERVILLE– Hope Brown Pennell, age 89, of Weaverville, died Thursday, May 3, 2018, just 20 days short of her 90th birthday.
Hope was born May 23, 1928 in Pocahontas, VA and was a resident of Wilkes County before moving to Buncombe County in 1965. A member of Weaverville United Methodist Church for 53 years, she had served as church treasurer, Methodist women’s treasurer and preschool treasurer. She supported the Methodist women’s organizations for 50 plus years and was a member of the Grace Waugh Circle. Hope was a former high school librarian in North Wilkesboro. She was an avid crossword puzzle worker and loved to read. Preceding her in death are her parents, Cyrus and Fannie Taylor Brown and sisters, Jewell Pruett and Anna Lee Lewis
Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Fred S. Pennell; daughter, Peggy Myers and husband, Ernest of Asheville; sons, Dale Pennell, and Jeff Pennell and wife Carole all of Weaverville; brothers, Taylor Brown and wife Jean and Rex Brown all of Moravian Falls; grandchildren, Matthew Pennell, Emily Clark, Martha Cardenas, Nick Edmonds, Mark Edmonds, Veronica Blasingame, Samuel Pennell and Elizabeth Pennell; great grandchildren, Titus Edmonds and Baylor Edmonds, Triston Jaynes, and Maggie and Josie Clark.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2018 in Weaverville United Methodist Church, 85 North Main Street, Weaverville. Rev. Steve Haines will officiate. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park, Weaverville.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2018 at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.
