WEAVERVILLE – John Hugh Hamilton, age 80, of Weaverville, loving husband to Mazie Gordon Hamilton for 59 years, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2017. Mr. Hamilton was born August 11, 1937 in Buncombe County to the late Richard Herron and Ethel Walton Hamilton. He had a 35 year career at Sherwin Williams. The Hamilton family has lived on their family farm for at least 213 years, it being passed down for many generations, first as a dairy farm and later becoming a farm where black angus cattle are bought, raised and sold as beef. Hugh and Mazie enjoyed many activities, attending church at First Born Baptist Church, enjoying local festivals and raising a large garden each year. They were on the board of directors for the Dry Ridge Museum, members of the Weaverville Music Club, past officer of the Madison County Genealogical Society and a member of Vance Camp (SCV). Hugh was also an active supporter of the Reems Creek Valley Fire Department. Hugh and Mazie both loved gospel music, especially the Fox Family and spent many evenings enjoying family and friends while sitting on the front porch. In addition to his parents, Hugh was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Hamilton. Surviving are his wife Mazie Gordon Hamilton; sons, Wayne Gordon Hamilton and wife, Leona, Kurt Milton Hamilton and wife, Charlene; daughter, Regina Lara Hamilton and husband, Chris; sister, Mary Ann Hamilton; uncle, James Parker; grandsons, Zachary Hamilton, Ethan and Grayson Blalock, Noah Wehmeyer, Shane Coates and wife, Jennifer, Abraham Hamilton and wife, Karen, Micah and David Hamilton; granddaughters, Adrienne Hamilton, Mechelle Williams and husband, Michael; great grandchildren, Jordan and Aiden Allison, Nathaniel and Braelynn Coates, Bexley and Bentley Hamilton and Devon Mace and wife, Nikki; great great grandson, Derek Mace; brother-in-law, Howard Gordon; sisters-in-law, Donna Steppe and husband, Ronald and Udell Bryson and husband, Ken. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 22, 2017, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Reverend Jerry Jamerson officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Union Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the funeral home.
