HUGH HENRY "BOOMPA" ROBERSON WOODFIN - Hugh Henry "Boompa" Roberson, age 91, of Elkwood Avenue, went to be with his Lord on Friday, May 15, 2015. Mr. Roberson was born October 4, 1923 in Buncombe County where he had lived all of his life. Hugh was a Veteran of the United States Army during World War II who fought in the Battle of the Bulge and recipient of a Purple Heart, and retired as Postmaster of the Biltmore Post Office. Among his many achievements; he served on the board of WNC Rescue Mission, board member of Woodfin Water for many years, and was a dedicated charter member who worked diligently to carry out the objectives of the Woodfin Lions Club. He recently celebrated sixty years of membership as a mason with the Vance Lodge No. 293 A.F. & A.M. of North Carolina. Mr. Roberson was one of the originators and second Mayor of the Town of Woodfin and also an originator and member of the Woodfin Fire Department. Being a lifelong member of Newbridge Baptist Church, he served in many capacities including deacon and treasurer. A son of the late Ged Lusk and Reva Buckner Roberson and husband of the late Cecelia Runion Roberson who died in 1986. Surviving are his sons, Rick Roberson and wife Alice and Randy Roberson and wife Jeanette; grandchildren, Chad Roberson and wife Tiffiny, Tracy Roberson Griffin and husband David, Matthew Roberson and wife Adrienne, and Cory Clemmons and wife Sharon; and great grandchildren, Olivia, Nate, and Graham Roberson, and Maclane Griffin. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 18, 2015, in Newbridge Baptist Church, 199 Elkwood Ave., Asheville, NC 28804, with Reverend Clark Henderson and Reverend Lee Roy Denton officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Beth Anderson Family Life Center of Newbridge Baptist Church, 199 Elkwood Avenue, Asheville, NC 28804.
