WEAVERVILLE - Imogene Ann Wimer, 72, of Weaverville, the wife of James Harold Wimer, died Aug. 29, 2011, at home of heart failure after being weakened for more than ten years by a rare blood disorder.
Born November 9, 1938, in Buckhannon, W.Va., she was the daughter of Ethel Gladys Green Moss and James Raymond Moss. She graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in 1956 and attended West Virginia Wesleyan College in her native Buckhannon.
After she married, she lived in Bridgeport, W.Va. for ten years, before relocating to Westport, Conn., where she was an active volunteer in the schools. She was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church of Westport and Weston and she volunteered for several local clubs. Once her children were teenagers, she worked as a realtor, but her passion was always bridge. She gave private lessons for more than 30 years and she taught the game at Staples High School, Westport Continuing Education and the Westport Center for Senior Activities before she and her husband retired to North Carolina in 1999.
Although she left West Virginia when she was 30, she always remained a member of the Straight Fork United Methodist Church. Not only was it the church of her childhood, it was where she was married and her children were baptized.
In addition to her husband of 53 years, she is survived by two children and their spouses, Ronald Eric Wimer and Peggy Mevs of Westport, Conn., and Brenda Ann and Michael DeMattio of Weston Conn.; and six grandchildren, David, Nicholas, Samuel, and Peter DeMattio and Gabrielle and Maximilian Wimer; an uncle, Lonnie Green, Jr. of Cowen, W.Va.; an aunt, Junie Goff of LaPlata, Md.; and her sister-in-law, Imogene Wimer of Crawford, W.Va.
A celebration of her life will be held at a future date at the Straight Fork United Methodist Church, where her cremated remains will be interred in the Wimer Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends at home, in Weaverville, N.C., from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon, September 2, 2011.
