WEAVERVILLE – Irene Taffer Banks, age 89, of Weaverville, died Sunday April 18, 2021.
Mrs. Banks was born October 23, 1931 in Madison County to the late Ardle and Nell Shelton Taffer. She was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. An active member of First Baptist Church Weaverville, she served in several capacities. She enjoyed sewing, growing flowers, quilting, square dancing, and was also involved in fund raising for Hospice. Most of all, she enjoyed being a wife and mother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Beatrice Taffer Edmonds.
Surviving are her husband of almost 70 years, Edgar Banks; daughters, Beverly Guthrie and husband Laymon and Kimberly Plemmons and husband Mark; sons, Douglas Banks and wife Mary and Mark Banks and wife Donna; brothers, Landon Taffer and wife Evon, LWood Taffer and wife Patsy and Doyle Taffer and wife Mary; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, April 21, 2021 in First Baptist Church Weaverville. Rev. Dr. Stuart Lamkin and Rev. Dr. Jim McCoy will officiate. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, Asheville.
The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at West Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church one hour prior to the funeral.
Per the NC Governor, masks are required.
