IRENE MARSHBANKS WADDELL WEAVERVILLE – Irene Marshbanks Waddell, age 88, of Weaverville died Friday, February 10, 2017 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. Mrs. Waddell was born June 2, 1928 in Buncombe County where she had lived all of her life. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association where she had served as president and held other offices. After 40 years of service she retired from Public Service Gas Company. She was an active and long term member of Forks of Ivy Baptist Church. Irene had a passion for the Arts, loved to travel and loved her dog, Ralph. A daughter of the late Harvey Allen and Mary Jo Sams Marshbanks; she was also preceded in death by a sister, Doris M. Eller; niece, Marsha Gray Eller and her husband, Bartow Phillip “Bill” Waddell who died in 1994. Surviving are her niece and caregiver, Terry Eller Parker and husband Douglas; brother, Harvey Allen Marshbanks, Jr. and wife Kathy; several other nieces and nephews; numerous cousins; and many friends. Her service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 14, 2017, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Reverend Jerry Shelton officiating. Private Burial will be in Mars Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, February 13, 2017 at the funeral home.
