Iris Lee Blankenship Holcombe

WEAVERVILLE—Iris Lee Blankenship Holcombe, age 72, of 145 Clarks Chapel Rd., Weaverville died Sunday, May 18, 2008. Mrs. Holcombe was born February 7, 1936 in Buncombe County. She lived and worked in the DC and Northern Va. area for a number of years before returning to Weaverville 20 years ago. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Weaverville. Iris was the daughter of the late Roy and Carlie Cheek Blankenship and was also preceded in death by her husband, Vaughn "Sonny" Holcombe and brother, Roy L. Blankenship, Jr. Surviving are her sons, Mark Holcombe of Fairfax, Va., Tim Holcombe of Weaverville, Randy Holcombe of Nags Head and Chris Holcombe of Weaverville; brother, Leon Blankenship of Va. and granddaughters, Jenna and Katie Holcombe. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in Clark's Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Jim McCoy officiating. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
