ASHEVILLE - Rev. J. C. Parker, age 92, of Asheville died Friday, April 21, 2017. Mr. Parker was born February 21, 1925 in Bertie County, NC to the late Julian Carlton Parker, Sr. and Margaret Batts Parker. A veteran of World War II, he served in the US Army. He was a long- time Associate Pastor at Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a brother, John Parker and sisters, Margie Robinson, Debra Jane Young and Martha Ann Terry. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Mary Kay Baber Parker; daughter, Julia Kay Parker; sons, Wesley Carlton Parker and Steven Randall Parker; sister, Judy Alford; brothers, Pete Parker and Phil Parker; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 23, 2017 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville with Rev. James Lamb officiating. The family will greet friends following the funeral service. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 25, 2017 in Lewis Memorial Park with military honors provided by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard.
