James Doyle Ward

WEAVERVILLE – James Doyle Ward, Age 87, of Weaverville, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023.  Mr. Ward was born on June 3, 1936, in Yancey County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life.  He was the son of the late Howard “Dooley” and Pauline Boone Ward.

He was an independent truck driver and owned and operated his own truck.  He enjoyed golfing in his retirement.  He was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War serving in the US Marine Corp.  He attended Mt. Sheba Baptist Church. 

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lucille Phillips Ward of Weaverville, and son, Rick Ward and wife, Maxine of Horse Shoe, NC; a sister, Ruth Olsen of Maiden, NC; brothers, Ray Ward, Harold Ward (Mozell) both of Connley Springs, NC, and Gerald Ward and wife Linda of Denton, NC; grandchildren, Jenifer Klinger (Ryan) and Tabetha Jenkins (Brandon); and great grandchildren Luke, Maddy, Aubrey, and Karlee.

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Mt. Sheba Baptist Church, 870 New Stock Road, Weaverville, NC with Reverends Steve Rhinehart, Harold Ward, and Gerald Ward officiating. Burial to follow at West Memorial Park, 40 Roberts Street, Weaverville, NC.  The family will receive friends from 12:45 pm to 1:45 pm on Tuesday, October 10 at the church prior to the service.
