James Joseph Cheek

WEAVERVILLE – Joe Cheek went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the age of 81. He was born in Buncombe County on September 13, 1943, and lived his entire life on Cheek Road. After dedicating 38 years to the NCDOT he retired as a heavy equipment operator. Granddaddy will be remembered for his kindness, loving heart and his devotion to his family and passion for hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Katherine Cheek; his wife, Darlene Cheek; and daughter, Leann Cheek Davis; and siblings, Betty Sue Yarborough, Mary Lou Messer, Robert Cheek, and Maurice Cheek.

He is survived by his brother, Herbert Cheek (Norma); and son, David Cheek (Joyce); daughter, Gina Kempf (Howard); as well as his grandchildren, Trevor Cheek, Christopher Cheek, Savannah Cheek, Bradley Palmer (Alyssa), Hunter Palmer (Amber); and his great grandchildren, Braxton Palmer, Eleanor Palmer, Charlotte Palmer, Hardie Palmer, Wilkie Palmer, and Dalton Palmer.

At this time family has asked for privacy along with thoughts and prayers.
