WEAVERVILLE – James Boyd Robertson, age 100, died on Thursday, February 23, 2023, after a period of declining health at Brookdale Senior Living in Clarksville, Tennessee. He was born on May 29, 1922, in Canton, North Carolina to the late William Hillman Robertson and Sarah Rebecca Leisher Robertson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers; Charles, William, Andrew, Albert, George, and Thomas Robertson; and three sisters, Marie Allen, Esther Crawford, and Dorothy Romanchuk. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 44 years, Blanche Roberts Robertson and his second wife of 4 years, Mary Gambrell Carter Robertson.
Jim graduated from Canton High School. He proudly served his country in World War II as an airplane mechanic in the Army Air Corps. Jim was a retired postal worker after having worked in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Atlanta, Georgia.
After retirement from the postal service, he became a tobacco farmer. He enjoyed traveling with his first wife and visited Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. He particularly enjoyed visiting The Shetland Islands in Scotland, the home of his grandfather.
Jim’s hobbies were photography, coin collecting, model car and airplane building and custom leather purse designing. He attended Weaverville United Methodist Church for many years and later Oakley United Methodist Church in Asheville.
Funeral services will be Friday, March 3 at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Avenue, Weaverville. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at West Memorial Park in Weaverville.
