WEAVERVILLE—Jay Willard Tomberlin, Sr., age 74, of 296 Locust Grove Rd., died Wednesday, April 18, 2012. Jay was born March 8, 1938, in Madison County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He was an active hunter and fisherman and an avid NC Tarheel fan. He served in the US Marine Corps. Jay was a member of Morgan Hill Baptist Church, Weaverville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Haskett and Bessie Chandler Tomberlin. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Julia "Alice" Allman Tomberlin; daughter, Sharon Davis and husband Ambrose of Fairview; sons, Jay Willard Tomberlin, Jr., and wife Debbie, Jeff Tomberlin and wife Sandra, John Tomberlin and wife Brenda, all of Asheville, and Joe Tomberlin and wife Debra of Candler; sister, Johnnie Scott and husband Keith of Raleigh; brother, Rev. Joe Tomberlin and wife Marlene of Mars Hill; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. His funeral service will be held at 10 AM, Monday, April 23, 2012, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Revs. Joe Tomberlin, Jeff Tomberlin, Powell Young, and Kevin Garner officiating. Burial will be in Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at 12 noon. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Sunday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
