Jean Mundy Hensley

Mrs. Jean Mundy Hensley (Weaverville, N.C.) was born on May 22, 1938, and welcomed home in heaven on August 13, 2024. She joins her late husband of more than fifty years, Mr. Perry Donald Hensley, and son, Mr. Perry Donald Hensley, Jr. (“Donny”). 

Mrs. Hensley was a wife, mother, professional seamstress and baker. She was a devout member of the congregations of Biltmore Alliance Church (Asheville, N.C.), Oakley Baptist Church (Asheville, N.C.) and Pelham Road Christian Fellowship (Greenville, S.C.). She gave extensively of herself in service of their ministries throughout her life. And she was a beloved volunteer at Open Arms Hospice (Simpsonville, S.C.) in her later years. 

Mrs. Hensley is survived by her daughter, Kathryn H. Gaddy (Simpsonville, S.C.); daughter, Kristy H. Allen and son-in-law Greg Allen (Leicester, N.C.); and daughter, Beth H. Cooper and son-in-law Lee Cooper (Port St. Joe, F.L.). She is also survived by her brothers and sister, Roger, June and Jim Mundy (Weaverville, N.C.); her grandchildren, Joseph M. Allen (Campobello, S.C.), Tiffany Hensley (Asheville, N.C.), Shawn Silver (Lexington, K.Y.), Mel W. Gaddy (Chicago, I.L.), Bryce H. Gaddy (Pelzer, S.C.), Johnny Allen (Leicester, N.C.), Jenny Anderson (Leicester, N.C.) and Kahli Deschaw (Frisco, T.X.); and many great grand-children. 

Mrs. Hensley’s family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM on Saturday August 17, 2024, in the sanctuary at Oakley Baptist Church, located at 70 Fairview Avenue in Asheville, N.C. 28803.

The funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM, in the same location. The service will be officiated by Rev. Tim Yale and Rev. Tom Pierce. 

Mrs. Hensley’s body will be laid to rest beside her late husband Perry, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Asheville, N.C.
